A few photos from the 2023 local elections in rain and shine. Probably best to let the dust settle a little before doing a full analysis, but the best one I've read in the immediate aftermath is from Gavin Barwell (link at bottom). The one thing I'd add is that no matter which district I was in - and I visited several - I don't think I had a single piece of negative feedback on the PM. People see him as serious and competent. We've still got a lot of work to do to regain voters' trust before the next election, but that gives us a solid base to build on.
My only other reflection, which will not be news to regular campaigners, is that there really is no better way to find out what people are thinking than door to door campaigning. It's amazing how much people will tell you on the doorstep (though of course one or two will always slam the door on you), and in many ways it's as important a part of our democratic process as election day itself.
